Today I am setting of on a journey that is going to be one of the biggest challenges of my life. Mansa Musa has said that he is going to make a pilgrimage to mecca and is taking a lot of people with him. Unfortunately, I am one of those many people who is going to the unexpected. The only thing that is keeping me strong is that we will be able to complete one of the five pillars. There is so many things that can go wrong on this journey I lost count. As one of Mansa Musa Muslim Scholars, he will look at me in the tough situations and ask me what is to be done. We are talking an abnormal amount of gold with us, About 24,000 pounds of it. Now were going to Walta, a grassland about 600 miles away. It's filled which many dangerous animals which me and my fellow team of philosophers had to learn about. I better finish up the front have started to walk. I hope Allah will bless me on this journey and let everything go well.
I wake up in the hot dessert. I am relieved to see that I’m not the only. The caravan is multiple days ahead of us and out of our view. Me and a couple hundred people are left behind. We have ten camels which the commanders are going to take and the other people and I are going to have to walk by foot again. Thank you Allah for the oasis in the little town that we walked through and thank you for letting me survive so far. Our next stop is Taghaza. The Oasis that we found was critical because we are about to cross the dessert that has no water. I don't know how much our water supply will last but hopefully it will last to our next water source. The conditions are not as bad as the summer, the rain season is in right now so we might find some water spots around. There is so much trade in this little town that we are staying in its obscure. This is every traders dream. There is not much shade in this town but there is lots of tree’s. The palm tree that I am sitting under is quite big. Well I better run and go get some more water before it’s too late, because our journey Taghaza has just begun.
We arrived in Taghaza very late last night. When we came we decided that we shall depart at noon and try to catch up to the group that left early this morning. I was very surprised when I woke up this morning. I did not expect to see a town that looks this bad. There is nothing good about the conditions that these people live in. The houses and mosque are all made out of rock and salt. I know that I should not be expecting a lot from a town made for the housing a lot slaves but I am truly and utterly shocked. Well, I better run before the group leaves me, But I know now that if I am too survive this trip then I shall come and help this town because these conditions are unlivable.
We arrived in Taganga very late last night. When we came we decided that we shall depart at noon and try to catch up to the group that left early this morning. We arrived at Cairo this morning. Traveling the night was very hard and extremely dangerous. Since you can't see anything it ,makes you wonder, what is making that sound?, How should I react?,etc... But put aside our lack of sleep, this town is alive. Everywhere I look I see a smiling face. But there are rumors going around saying that Mansa Musa will not go to meet the Local Sultan, but when was asked said that he came for the pilgrimage and does not wish to mix anything else with his pilgrimage. It took me a second to realize that another reason Mansa Musa might have rejected the opportunity to meet the sultan is because if he decided to meet the sultan it would be required of him to go on the ground and kiss the sultan's hand. I feel very energized seeing all of this excitement around me. There is a lot of gold being distributed to the people around to my philosophical calculation more than to any other town. Well I’m going to go have a meal and rest up for the next portion of our trip.
I have not being able to look or should I say encounter Mansa Musa a lot. The glimpses of when I do get a chance to look at him I see a powerful man wearing a lot of gold. He sits on his gold stone with a golden crown, a long relatively skinny gold stick and a big ball made out of pure gold. He is a honest and noble king in all the land. We are passing by Mali a trade route for many and as my job on this journey I have to warn all the people that it is going to be busy and stick together. We are going to have to set up tents and caravans to sleep in. We are also going to have to take turns guarding our tents and our gold. Throughout this very long trip not many have had lots of sleep. Me, i had maybe 20 days with normal sleep and the rest about 5 hours now I should not even be complaining because the poor guards probably didn't even get those 20 days of good sleep. It is time to pray so I have to run but this trip is almost over and a have survived.
